Video: Sewells Comes to Pickens County

PICKENS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Congresswoman Terri Sewell hosted a town hall meeting this afternoon in Carolloton, Alabama.

As the Representative for District Seven, she came to the Pickens County town to address her constituents. Like many Americans, voters expressed their concerns about what’s going on in Washington.┬áTop issues included gun control, education, the budget deficit and veteran benefits.

“My biggest concern is veterans benefits and continue to take care of our veterans who are coming home,” said citizen Willis Frazier.

“She seemed to be for us and have our backs and that’s a big motivation for me,” said citizen Jerry Harton.

“We’re working on different stuff to help out our community. getting grants and doing you know different stuff that like i said would help with our young children,” said citizen Helen Sherrod.

“I wanted to attend the meeting to see what can be done, what is going on for rural county here in Pickens. I learned a lot that we go, we have a very great congresswoman representing us for this county and the black belt,” said citizen Andrea Ellis.

Elected in 2010, Sewell became the first African American woman to represent Alabama in congress.
