STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Starkville Board of Alderman covered hot topics on Tuesday night’s agenda.

More than a dozen Starkville Police Officers stood watch at the Board of Alderman meeting, waiting to hear if headquarters will be at a different location.

Residents gave their input on the possibility of the city using $2.55 million to purchase and renovate Cadence Bank on Main Street as the next police department. And not everyone agreed.

“To renovate that building at least as I see it to make it into an adequate police station with jail facility and such is going to require major renovations cause when you walk in the building, it’s a lot of open space and you wonder what they’ll do with the spiral staircase and it certainly is more space than what the city initially felt that they needed for a new police station and I kind of like the idea of renovations this building that we’re in,” says Milo Burnham.

In the end, city leaders agreed to sign a non-binding contract; which allows the city and Cadence Bank to discuss the project in more detail for 120 days.

Meanwhile, Mayor Wiseman broke a 3 to 3 tie return bonds worth $474,000 to the Starkville School District.

The Board also approved continuing its partnership with the Golden Triangle.
