STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Starkville city officials are eyeing a new location for police headquarters.

The three-story Cadence Bank main office on Main Street and Jackson Street could be it.

During Tuesday night’s board of aldermen meeting, city Chief Administrative Officer Taylor Adams suggested the idea.

Cadence has also owned property on Russell Street for the last 10 years. Building a new main office across from the Cotton Mill project near the MSU campus is a part of the bank’s long-term plans.

However, Cadence Mississippi President Jerry Toney says Cadence will still have a downtown presence, whether or not they sell to the city.

“We’ve been in this facility for the last 40 years and it works great as a bank. It’s a good building, it still functions very well, we’ve actually done some renovations in the last 12 months. If this goes through, it allows us to build a nice new modern facility. If it doesn’t go through, we’ll continue to support this building itself. We’re not abandoning downtown,” Toney said.

A city appointed appraiser will now determine a value on the 39,000 square-foot building.

A public hearing for the possible police department relocation will be held July 15th at City Hall.
