Video: Starkville Group Hosts Community Poverty Training Event

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Starkville Bridges out of Poverty conducted a community training event to educate the middle class on the causes of poverty, and possibly find solutions.

According to the Census Bureau, over 30 percent of Oktibbeha County is living below the poverty level.

Starkville Bridges not only helps people escape poverty, but also brings awareness to the struggles people in poverty endure.

Bobby Weatherly spoke to a group of middle class citizens, explaining there are numerous contributing factors that lead people into poverty, many that are out of control.

“For people to walk away with an improved paradigm of what poverty is,” Weatherly said.
