STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Starkville officers are moving back into neighborhoods. The department took the first steps today.

For the first time in many years, a police substation will be operating in the city. City leaders and SPD held a ribbon cutting and open house this afternoon on Alfred Perkins Street.

The move is part of larger community policing initiative, known as Active Prevention Patrol by Law Enforcement or Apple. At least three more substations are scheduled to open.
Residents say:

“It’s trouble everywhere and especially with our young people. And anything we can do to deter them from participation in negative behavior, then this can be a deterrent for that.”

For now, the substation will be open Monday-Friday from eight until five.
