Video: Starkville Ramps Up Beautification Efforts

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — After weeks of study and public comment, Starkville approves new standards it hopes will lead to a more attractive city.

The design standards call for brick, stucco or other decorative materials on metal buildings and set other standards for parking lot paving and how new buildings are viewed from the street.

The standards were approved with a 5-2 vote.

Supporters say they are a simple step used by many communities to improve how they look as new construction and renovations replace old buildings and vacant lots over time.
