STARKVILLE, MS (WCBI)- Think History class has to be boring? Not so if you’re in one of Ty Adair’s classes at Starkville High. Adair has been named the John K. Bettersworth History Teacher of the Year. The award goes to the most outstanding History teacher in the state. He is being recognized for his approach to teaching, which encourages students to think critically about people and events; ask their own questions, and do the research to find answers.

Adair also encourages his students to study the issues of the modern world by examining them through the lens of history. This is the latest award for Adair who has been teaching at Starkville High for twenty years. He is a two time STAR Teacher, and  was inducted into the Starkville Area Education Hall of Fame last month. He will be honored by the Mississippi Historical Society in March
