COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The state auditor’s office has cleared the Columbus’ gun buyback program of any wrong doing.

The city received the clearance letter Wednesday.

The auditor’s office opened an investigation earlier this year after a complaint the city improperly spent $10,000 buying back and disposing of the 64 weapons bought from local residents during the buyback in February 2013.

The auditor’s office found the city did have the authority and properly handled the purchases and the disposal.
