MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A stretch of Hwy 6 in Monroe County could be renamed in honor of the military.

Senate Bill 2586 was passed in the 2014 legislative session, which seeks to name a portion of Hwy 6 between Amory and Nettleton the Military Order of the Purple Heart Highway.

The Monroe County Board of Supervisors last Friday adopted a resolution which supported the move.

Officials say renaming the stretch of highway will not affect current addresses, nor will the county be required to foot the bill for any additional signage.

A dedication ceremony for the renaming has been tentatively scheduled for early 2015.
