COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – “We can do better”. That’s the message that Supervisor Leroy Brooks is spreading these days. Thursday,  he took that message to the Columbus Exchange Club. Brooks is leading The Men of Color project to both improve the lives of young African-American men in Lowndes County, and get them more involved in the community.

“We are trying to make a difference in the community. We’ve got some initiatives that we’ve been working on. It’s going to be a long process, but it’s about trying to make the neighborhoods and communities better, so it’s going to be led by African-American men. And, as time passes, we are going to bring other people to the table.”

The Men of Color of Columbus group is considering forming a non-profit organization to coordinate future projects.
