COLUMBUS and STARKVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)–Investigators in two counties fear arsonists may be at work after a string of fires at several empty homes and buildings. An abandoned trailer, a shed and another building all have gone up in flames in the last three weeks in the Blackjack community in Oktibbeha County. The lack of electricity and other evidence have investigators calling the fires suspicious and asking for the public’s help.

“We have asked the neighbors to keep an eye out for strangers and for traffic at all hours of the day and night and surely be aware of their surroundings.”

Meanwhile, Columbus fire marshals are looking into suspicious fires at at least three vacant homes since December. Investigators are looking at pictures and other evidence from the scenes in search of any common factors.
