STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-People are always trying to find a way to reduce their electricity bill, but what about solar panels?

Powered by the sun, fueled by technology. Synergetics in Starkville is using technology to further enhance solar power.

“If you completely cover your roof top with solar panels, you’ll produce more energy than what the building consumes and most cases in Mississippi so it’s possible to completely illuminate your electric bill with right planning,” says John-Ross Cromer.

While the basic homeowner may find an investment in solar panels to be too costly, it’s a different case for local and state businesses.

“Business owners though can go through the M-D-A to get a ten year low-interest loans and that’s a program we encourage businesses to participate in,” says Cromer.

Solar Consultant,John-Ross Cromer says even though more people are interested in solar arrays, Mississippi still has a long way to go.

“Mississippi has to develop better solar policies for that to happen. There is only about three states in the country that lack a next metering policy Texas is one of them it’s where I’m from. Mississippi is another. Alabama is the third so that’s the first building block for soar to take off in Mississippi,” says Cromer.

But that isn’t stopping commercial real-estate developer Yandell Wideman who says it’s an opportunity to increase his property value and attract future tenants.

“Saving a tenant utility costs which is obviously an opportunity and if you can do that then it’s an attractive place for a tenant to locate,” says Yandell Wideman.

Wideman says the workshop gave him a lot of information to consider for his property.

“I learned a lot today. I thought it was a very good course, very knowledgeable instructor and I’m going to go back and study it and see if I can come up with some ideas,” says Wideman.

Synergetics will host open house seminars on December 3rd and 17th for those who are interested in solar arrays.
