THAXTON, Miss. (WCBI) — They had never come together as a community before.

But on Saturday, residents of the Pontotoc county community of Thaxton held their first ever Buttermilk Springs Festival.

There was music for some local bands, as well as art and food vendors.

Organizer Brandon Gooch says the event has been a real success.

“We wanted to start a festival to bring the community together, said Gooch. “And we have a lot of local artists here and a lot of local musicians and we wanted to give them the opportunity to share some of there talent.”

Gooch says the name of the festival came from the fact that Thaxton used to be called Buttermilk Springs, because residents used to keep their buttermilk cold by putting it into a spring that flowed through town.

They hope to make it an annual event.
