COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-The Christian Church has been around for at least two thousand years. But its the modern church that is embracing technology in order to reach out to congregants. When parishioners gather for Sunday worship or bible study and its time for a biblical message, its easy to see how modern technology is included.

“We tell people pretty often here at the beginning of every service to either open your bible, your Ipad, or your smartphone,” said Jason Delgado, Pastor, Evangel Church.

“I still say grab your bible but there are a lot of versions of it. A lot of forms of it these days,” said Shawn Parker, Pastor, First Baptist Church.

And there is the social media that helps in communicating life giving truths. Antiquated methods are making way for those newer versions to get the message out.

“We use our website to get information to our church members. To reach out to people who are new in the community,” said Rev. Parker.

“Face book allows us to let our people know information, whats going on, whats available; whats coming up. Events and things like that that we are doing and just encouragements in general. So we use face book and twitter,” said Rev. Delgado.

During kids church at Evangel for instance, at a check in station security technology connects children directly to their parents worshiping in the sanctuary if there is an emergency. At Evangel’s sanctuary, more modern than most, software is used to control the atmosphere for worship on media screens.

“And just kind of systematically goes from our worship songs and how we showcase those with, we put motion enhancements and some graphics up there and it flows into our message,” said Delgado.

Even the collection plate at some churches have been converted to accepting tithes and offerings online through company websites like Paypal.
