TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)-The March of Dimes is partnering with a local hospital in an effort to lower the number of babies born too soon. Representatives from North Mississippi Medical Center, The March of Dimes and other community leaders were on hand for a ceremony announcing that partnership, called “healthy babies are worth the weight” the NMMC women’s hospital is one of 100 hospitals nationwide selected by The March of Dimes to receive its quality improvement service package. That helps hospitals reduce elective inductions and cesarean deliveries scheduled before 39 weeks of pregnancy. “This is one of those quick fixes if you will because even though it’s a big issue to tackle because we know many of these things could be prevented, so this is one of the focuses for the state and we felt like NMMC really had the staff champions to take it forward and to help it be a big source of information for the women living in this part of the state,” Dina Ray told WCBI. The NMMC women’s hospital and University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson were the only two hospitals selected in the state for the partnership.
