STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Starkville’s first cause-based retail store celebrated its grand opening the weekend of September 20-22, 2013.

The idea for The Old House originated from Burlaep, a non-profit group started by Mississippi State students that raises money to help fight preventable diseases.

The new store features local artists’ work and donates a portion of all sales to Burlaep’s mission or to a charity of the specific artist’s choosing.

Ben Eisman, co-founder and employee of the business, said, “We just have like a four word phrase– Shop Local, Give Global– and so basically it’s just local things with an international mindset.”

One customer who heard about the grand opening from a friend said, “I’m definitely satisfied. It was a really cool store, and I’ll definitely be coming back.”

The Old House is located on 122 North Jackson Street in Starkville and is now open for business! More details on the store can be found at their website: http://burlaep.com/pages/the-old-house.
