LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-”Our concern is with the child.”

Take a look at this picture. It’s the latest released by investigators. Lowndes County deputies want to know why Don Harris and Allison Studdard would take their 2 year old daughter, Maliah Harris, after finding their 7 month old baby, Alyssa, dead in a crib.

“The official call was around 6a.m. It was because the child was not breathing. As we found out later, the child passed away,” said Lowndes County Sheriff Mike Arledge.

Sheriff Arledge says Roger Studdard, Allison’s father, woke up hearing loud noises in the hallway at his Caledonia home and found Harris and Struddard trying to help the baby. When he called 9111, the couple ran.

“They had tried to render care to the infant and the infant appeared to be a well developed 7 month old baby. There was no trauma or injuries apparent to the infant,” said Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.

WCBI reached out to the family but no one came to the door. Arledge says Methamphetamine was found at the scene.

“We do have charges on the mother and father and I think it might be a reason they just panicked and left,” said Sheriff Arledge.

The couple was last seen at a Reform, Alabama convenience store in a 2002 Pontiac Aztec with Georgia license plate PGR7927.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says based on preliminary results there was nothing physically wrong with the 7 month old.

Further toxicology and testing is expected to be completed.
