ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — The vast universe is brought down to earth in the form of a planetarium just big enough to fit inside Aberdeen High School Gym.

Imagine the planetarium being a spaceship getting ready to take off to our Milkyway galaxy and beyond, inside the space unit, students get an up close bird’s-eye view of stars and planets. One of 35 students able to fit inside the planetarium was fascinated by one rusty-red planet in our solar system.

“Mars, how we got to see the true atmosphere and how the ground was around it. It was really amazing,” said Camaron Cockerham, Aberdeen ROTC cadet.

“Planets, galaxies, star systems, and it really gives them a perspective of our universe that is difficult to get from a textbook, “said Whitney Jackson, facilitator-Ole Miss.

The space travelers were able to track movements of the sun as it rises in the east and sets in the west.
