TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Members of the Tupelo High School Showchoir and its Band took top honors at a regional competition this weekend in Florida.
WCBI’s Allie Martin has more from the talented students who are now practicing and fundraising for the Nationals next month.

It was an excited crowd greeting the THS Showchoir and Band as they arrived back home Sunday night.

The Showchoir, which is called “Synergy” and its band named “Structure” won Grand Champions at the prestigious “FAME Regional Showchoir Competition” in Orlando.

“We’re very happy about that,” said Director Danielle Frerer.

On Monday morning, it was time to pose for more photos, and start rehearsing for the next round.

The showchoir and band performed a series of 7 songs, with a theme.

“The name of our show is called IAM and it is kind of a commentary on what the media tries to portray a strong confident woman as, somebody who’s more materialistic and the show turns and shows what a real strong and confident woman is, which is somebody who has respect, who is their own individual self,” Frerer said.

Danielle Frerer directs the Showchoir and has been helping lead rehearsals since November. This is the second year in a row the young singers, dancers and musicians have taken the top spot at Regionals.

Showchoir members say they set their goals high and work hard.

“Everybody has to give 100 percent in this group, we spend a lot of time together, practicing, weekends, after school, spending a lot of time working hard for this,” said Molly Homan.

“A lot of blood , sweat and tears, sore muscles, I think it’s the love for Showchoir that helps us get through it,” said Reagan Ray.

In the next few weeks, the work will continue, as the Showchoir and band prepare for the Nationals in Chicago at the end of April.

To help raise money for that Chicago trip, members of the showchoir will take part in a celebrity wait night Tuesday evening at The Grill in Tupelo. All tips will go to cover the cost of the trip.
