PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) — Some like to run 5Ks to raise money for a good cause.

But others would rather do it on horseback. Riders set off on the annual J.D. Brown Memorial St. Jude Trail Ride. The benefits all go to that renown children’s hospital in Memphis.

Coordinator Ruth Hall says St. Jude is important to a number of families in Pontotoc.

“We enjoy horses,” she said. “We enjoy doing this because we’re helping people. We’re helping kids. We have several kids in Pontotoc County that are affected with St. Jude’s and we just enjoy doing it.”

Hall says following the ride, there was some great food, and an auction that really helped bring in the money.

Hall says they are proud of the fact that in the first 14 years of the trail ride, they raised more than $277,000. She hoped to raise an additional $20,000 this time.
