JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — The Mississippi House unanimously approved funds for a new trooper school, but it is not close to being a done deal. The $6.9M measure was passed this afternoon. Lt. Governor Tate Reeves and some senators have opposed sharp increases in funding because they say too much money is being spent on administration at the Department of Public Safety and not enough on highway patrolmen.

The legislation now moves on to the state Senate for more debate. Governor Phil Bryant says a trooper school is a priority this legislative session.
