COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — New information tonight on a fire that nearly shutdown downtown Columbus. A transformer that caught fire this past Saturday, forcing a temporary shutdown of the Trotter Convention Center, and causing a power outage for area merchants has been replaced.

Utility workers are still looking into what caused the transformer to blow, but they believe it may have been an exposed wire. The Convention Center has since reopened.
