TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo area businesses and organizations will have a say on the next airline that lands at the regional airport. Four replacement carriers were discussed at Tuesday’s Airport Board meeting. Now, a board appointed committee will get input from stakeholders such as Toyota and the Community Development Foundation.

Airport Manager Josh Abramson said, “It’s going to be the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Those are the people that funnel people in and out of Tupelo. It’s going to be the commitment of them to make sure that when people in come and out of Tupelo they fly on the airline. It’s going to be the local businesses and representatives through the CDF because it’s going to be up to them to fly on the airplane to be committed to it in order to make the system and program work. Without the community’s involvement it’s not going to work and that’s why we think this committee is important.”

Silver Airlines will operate until a replacement is found. The Airport Board can accept one of the bids or ask for an extension.
