TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – One Tupelo based Boy Scout troop set a milestone this weekend.

Troop 12 camped out in front of its sponsor First United Methodist Church of Tupelo.

It is the 750th consecutive month that the troop has conducted a campout. No other BSA has accomplished such a feat.

For those keeping count, that’s a campout every month for 62-and-a-half years.

Scoutmaster John Finch says the boys are dedicated to keeping this streak going.

“They plan the campouts,” Finch said. “We meet before it starts and we prep them on what to say and the senior patrol leader runs the meeting. Unlike when I was in scouts it was all adults taking care of everything. Here the boys run it.”

Finch says Troop 12 has had a tremendous success in producing Eagle Scouts.

He says more than of them have achieved that rank since he’s been scoutmaster.

He says nationally only four percent of Boy Scouts ever get to Eagle.
