Video: Tupelo City Workers to Get a Pay Raise

Tupelo, Miss. (WCBI) – It wasn’t unanimous but the Tupelo City Council has approved a raise for the virtually city employee.  The council voted 4-2 with one member recusing herself to approve a budget amendment to give employees a 1-percent across the board raise. While 1-percent doesn’t seem that much Mayor Jason Shelton says it’s just the first step in a much needed pay increase in the city.

“The rise in personnel costs are real issue and it was important to me that it didn’t go up. This is the first step in a seven year process that hopefully will bring personnel costs down while increasing the salaries of our employees.”

The city also recognized that many volunteers who have come from all over the country to participate in the Build for Beth program. Beth Stauffer is the widow of Gale Stauffer who was killed in the line of duty in December.
