TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) –   Since October, nearly 50 cast and crew have been working hard.  They have transformed the Lyric Theatre into the streets of New York City, Macy’s Department Store, a courtroom and other scenes from the timeless classic, “Miracle on 34th Street.”

Cast members say there are many challenges when it comes to staging such a well known production.

“Remembering the lines is the biggest thing, but just bringing the character to life, kind of putting my own spin on it in a way that everybody will get something from it,” said Richmond Smith, who plays “Kris Kringle.”

For Bobby Geno, this is his second time directing a major Christmas play. He says this particular cast is diverse in many areas.

“This year, with this cast we have so many new facts at TCT. We do have some veteran actors but we have a lot of new people who have either never been on stage or this is their first experience at TCT and being able to inspire them, direct them and teach them, to see them grow, think about where they were on October 21st when we first got together and where they are today, it’s amazing,” Geno said.

This production stays true to the original story, with a few minor updates. Still, cast and crew say the have had a blast preparing for a play with an unchanging message.

“It’s fun because I got to meet a great cast and the cast are good friends and they are really funny,” said Richie Smith.

“The season is not about the commercialism, it’s not about the toys, it’s about believing in the spirit of Christmas,” David Neilsen said.

“Believe and have faith in the true Christmas spirit,” said Abby Spires, who plays Susan Walker.

“Christmas is about a miracle and it’s not about the busyness of the season, but about Christ being born,” said Chanda Cossitt.

A timeless message about the reality of miracles, presented by local talent on the stage of the Lyric . It’s a gift everyone can enjoy.

TCT’s Production of “Miracle on 34th Street” runs at 7:30 Friday (12-7) and Saturday(12-8) night,  there is also a 2 pm matinee Saturday (12-8).
