TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Seventeen people have completed an intensive program designed to help them be ambassadors for the  city of Tupelo. The third class of the “Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Tourism Leadership Program” graduated Tuesday afternoon. For the past six months,  participants have learned about the city’s history and what it offers for tourists. The class is made up of people from the hospitality industry and they learn how to better educate and assist visitors.

“So many times, we don’t become tourists in our own town. Just like New Yorkers don’t go to the Statue of Liberty, a lot of folks in Tupelo will not go see the birthplace of Elvis.  So we take that upon ourselves to educate these class members that they’ve seen all of our tourist attractions here in Tupelo.”

Applications for the next class will be accepted in October and the sessions start in December.
