TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo may be working on redeveloping another part of town. The city council voted Tuesday night to start talks to purchase the Azalea Gardens apartment complex on Ida Street. The 221 unit complex has been under scrutiny for a high crime rate and poor living conditions.

The building is in foreclosure after a South Carolina developer defaulted on a $9.3M debt. Wells Fargo bank now holds title to the property and that’s who the city will negotiate with. Plans for the property will be unveiled if the city is successful in buying it.
