TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo firefighters turned out at Fire Station Number One to remember those who were killed in the terror attacks 13 years ago.

Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre and Fire Chief Thomas Walker talked about the sacrifices first responders make everyday.

Organizers say services like this help everyone remember the selfless attitude of first responders.

“Firefighting is a brotherhood, it doesn’t matter if you are standing in Tupelo, Mississippi or New York City, it’s still a matter of a group of men who battle the same evils everyday as far as fire, or respond to EMS calls, so there was 343 brothers that we lost that day,” Walker said.

Another Sept. 11 remembrance service will take place in Tupelo this evening at 6 p.m. at St James Catholic Church on North Gloster Street.
