TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — It was a chance for city leaders, high school students and community members to celebrate Black History Month.

Tupelo High School hosted its annual Black History Month program this morning in the gymnasium. There was music from “THS Voices” and WCBI’s Aundrea Self was the keynote speaker.

Aundrea encouraged the young people to remember the sacrifices made by countless African Americans to gain equal rights. She also challenged the high school students to do their very best in all circumstances, and to respect themselves and others.

The theme for this year’s program was “Beyond the Dream.” It is part of a month long series of activities and events throughout the Tupelo Public School District to commemorate Black History Month
