TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — The city of Tupelo chose a historic location for a new festival.

The first ever Noleput celebration is featuring live music from bands mostly from our area.

The city of Tupelo wanted to have an event downtown for everyone to enjoy free of charge.

Organizers say it is Mardi Gras with a Tupelo twist. The “No” in Noleput stands for New Orleans.

And it’s being held at a historic Tupelo landmark.

“We’re located in what used to be known as the Ice House,” said volunteer Melonie Kight. “It is now the Silver Moon Club. It is famous for starting years ago with an event we had called Oleput. Inside there’s alot of memorabilia, Elvis information. It’s just great and it seemed to be the perfect way to start off a new event.”

Organizers intend to make this an annual event.
