TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The debris left behind from demolished Tupelo city-owned apartments should be removed next month.

Demolition of the Azalea Gardens apartments started last month.

Construction companies have until next week to bid on debris removal. That sets cleanup to begin September 3rd.

The city bought the Ida Street property in April.

The apartment complex had a high crime rate and was often scrutinized for poor living conditions.

Tupelo leaders hope to redevelop the area.
