TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Parents and children in Tupelo had the chance to learn several ways to stay healthy by developing good habits.

Health Works hosted a “Together We Can” program, Saturday, funded by a $20,000 grant from Toyota.

Parents took part in an interactive game show to learn healthy eating tips to pass along to their children.

The children were in another section of the building learning how healthy lungs function.

Kathy Tucker is the director of Health Works. She says it’s important to cut down on children’s screen time.

“Screen time is watching television,” Tucker said. “Now we know that there is a certain amount of screen time and down time that kids can have. But we’re trying to encourage kids to get out and be moving. Cell phones, hand held games, all of things that are so captivating to kids today we’re showing them that they need to put those down and get out and move a little bit more.”

Saturday’s event is designed to tie in with programming at Tupelo, Lee County and Nettleton upper elementary schools.
