TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Being a strong leader pays off for the superintendent of Tupelo schools.

School board members have voted to raise Gearl Loden’s pay by 3 percent each year as an automatic cost of living increase.

This year, that brings Loden’s salary to more than $196,000.

The school board is also providing deferred compensation of $6,000 per year as an incentive to keep the superintendent in the district.

Loden is contracted with Tupelo schools through June of 2018.
