TUPELO, Miss. – (WCBI) Tupelo Middle School 8th grader Maria Kaltchenko has done it again. She won the Lee County spelling bee Thursday for the second straight year.

She needed an exhausting 26 rounds before second place finisher Emalee Blaylock of Mooreville Middle School missed a word. Kaltchenko spelled “picaresque” to clinch it.

Both students will compete in the regional spelling bee in Memphis in March.
