Video: Tupelo Students Celebrate “Walk to School” Day

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -It was an opportunity for parents and their children to exercise and share quality time. Tupelo’s Joyner Elementary took part in the annual Walk To School Day. The event is a national initiative, designed to promote healthy lifestyles by encouraging parents and guardians to walk their kids to school. In Tupelo students, their parents and guardians, along with teachers, met at the Oakridge Christian Church before walking to Joyner School.
“As we transition to the fall season we want to continue to encourage our students to remain outside and enjoying time with family and friends and building relationships with our teachers and our community.”

“Why is it important to walk and exercise?”

“So you can get more energy.”

School resource officers with the Tupelo Police Department helped control traffic as the teachers, youngsters and their guardians walked to school.
