TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Students in the Tupelo Public School District will benefit from nearly $70,000 in grants from individuals and corporations. Hundreds of educators, businesspeople and concerned citizens gathered at Tupelo’s Joyner Elementary for the annual Association for Excellence in Education luncheon. During the lunch, grants totaling $68,000 were announced by AEE. Those grants will fund a variety of projects at all schools throughout the district. It is a way for the private sector to help boost and support public education.

Teachers write grants and a 20 member board oversees and approves disbursement of the funds. Awards were also given to individuals and business owners who have supported the schools throughout the years.
