TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The final portion of a project connecting West Tupelo to the Barnes Crossing Business District is now open. Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held this morning for the West Barnes Crossing Road and Highway 78 Bridge.

The completion of the road and bridge marks the final part of a loop that connects McCullough Road to West Barnes Crossing Road. Local, state and national dignitaries were on hand and all said the project is an example of teamwork.

“Being a regional hub for shopping at the mall, if you’re someone who likes to come in and shop in Tupelo this will be a tremendous benefit in being able to move freely in and out of the city and get in and out of the Barnes Crossing area.”

The bridge cost 10 million dollars and is a part of the Major Thoroughfare Program .
