Video: Two Arrested in Connection with Thursday Night Standoff in Houston

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) -There were some tense moments for Houston Police and Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Deputies Thursday evening as a domestic disturbance turned into a standoff between law enforcement officers and a female suspect.It all ended peacefully with the arrest of the woman and her husband. WCBI’s Allie Martin brings us up to date on the investigation.

Yellow tape still blocks access to this house at 513 Pittsboro Street. The usually calm neighborhood was the scene of a standoff Thursday night between law officers and this woman, 54 year old Teresa Murphy. Houston Police Chief Billy Voyles says the incident began around 7 when a man called 9 1 1 saying he had been shot.

“By time we got here the gentleman, he done drove himself to the police department and reported it up there.”

Chief Voyles Teresa Murphy fired six shots from this 22 caliber handgun at her husband. He was not hit. However, when police tried to question Mrs. Murphy, the standoff began.

“I called for the other officer to come on here, they came here, when they got here she just barricaded herself in the house and wouldn’t come out.”

Electricity was cut off to the home, and a short time later, police and sheriff’s deputies entered the home through the front door and carport door.

“She was sitting on the sofa, had two weapons on the sofa with her and a handgun.”

The chief says these firearms, sword , ammunition and baseball bat were also found inside the house.

Now, Teresa Murphy is in jail, charged with attempted murder. And her husband is also in jail, charged with aggravated assault. Chief Voyles says the disturbance began when Eris Murphy broke out the back windshield of his wife’s car, with a satellite dish.

The chief says alcohol was likely involved and Teresa Murphy had quit taking a prescription to treat anxiety or depression. In Houston I’m Allie Martin WCBI News>
