TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A shelter for domestic abuse victims receives a grant from a cell phone company. SAFE, Incorporated, received a $5,000 check from Verizon as part of the company’s HopeLine initiative.
The HopeLine program collects old mobile phones and accessories, refurbishes the devices, loads free minutes of talk time, and donates those phones to domestic violence shelters for victims to use.  However, if the phones can’t be repaired, they are sold to fund the HopeLine grants.

“We’re just raising awareness, so we help shelters like this all across Mississippi. We want them to use it to better the lives of the men and women and children that are here in the shelter.”

“This money will be used to take our clients from being a victim to being a survivor, it goes for a number of things, operation costs of the shelter, the van and the daycare.”

Last year, SAFE, Incorporated, helped more than 300 victims of domestic violence throughout a 9-county area.
