COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Volunteers at VA hospitals across the country give hours in service to our military veterans. It is impossible to calculate the amount of caring and sharing that these volunteers provide to veteran patients.

At their Thursday luncheon, Columbus Exchange Club members focused on veterans who put everything on the line to protect our freedom, and volunteers who help provide assistance to them. Starkville native and Chief of Voluntary Service at G. V. Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Embra Jackson, is one of 320 volunteers at the VA facility.

“Assisting with homeless veterans, some of our mental health veterans, providing them services as well. And we have a new program called no veteran dies alone. We have a 13 bed hospice unite at the facility where we have volunteers who are there with these individuals for the end of life care,” Jackson said.

There is always a need for volunteers in Jackson and also at the VA Clinic in Columbus. To find out more contact the VA Health Administration at 601-364-1391.
