WEBSTER, Miss. (WCBI) — Fifteen months after the Webster County Courthouse is destroyed by fire, voters are at the polls helping county supervisors to decide how to put one up again and whats to be done next. The old Webster County Courthouse has been boarded up as Supervisors deal with things like an insurance company lawsuit and securing funding. So now an advisory referendum is allowing the people to speak at the polls.

Voters have one of two options on their ballots. They can vote to build a modern courthouse building somewhere in Walthal Village or they can vote to restore the courthouse at the old location. According to Webster County Supervisors, the idea is to build back a quality courthouse facility with whatever funds are available. One Webster County voter casting her ballot Tuesday thinks that older buildings have more character.

“I don’t know, its been a symbol here in Walthal for so long. And its our county seat. And it’s a beautiful old building and I think that it should be restored,” said Donna Stewart/Webster County Voter.
