TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Some of the most famous Walt Disney characters are brought to life on the ice this weekend in our area.

From the opening act, featuring the world’s most famous mouse, audiences at “Disney on Ice Princesses and Heroes” will experience eight well known stories complete with special effects, choreography, artistic skating and acrobatics.

The show features 40 skaters and a tour coordinator who helps keep it all together.

“We have to make sure everyone gets to and from the venues we have to make sure everyone gets picked up for PRs, we have to make sure everything goes smoothly in early morning PR and we have live on ice segments that happen,” said tour coordinator Adrian Baez.

Baez helped coordinate a live segment for our station, and in between ensemble skater John Stackhouse gave me a quick lesson on the art of sword fighting.

On some days, between shows, the professional skaters have the opportunity to take classes.

“In a lot of our production numbers we have group numbers that have a lot of people on the ice and so they need to get in sync with each other so they can look beautiful and graceful on the ice, then it makes everyone in the audience say, wow, they look so graceful on the ice,” Baez said.

The skaters work hard and say they enjoy bringing the magic of Disney to the Ice for audiences around the world.

“This is my first time in Tupelo I’ve done the whole states tour before and I’ve been a bit all over the world over the past four years so it’s a great traveling experience as well,” said Freddy Allain, an ensemble skater.

Disney on Ice Princesses and Heroes runs through Sunday at the Bancorpsouth Arena.
