WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — Members of a West Point Church are reaching out to the local community by giving residents something sweet.

For the third year, members of the First Christian Church are giving away free sweet potatoes to the public.

It’s a ministry the church looks forward to each year.

In their first year, the church started with two crates of sweet potatoes and now, they are up to five crates.

Volunteers say they will bag around 2 thousand sweet potatoes to give away.

The church hopes to keep growing their ministry each year.

“And we’re building it up. We want to try to feed as many people as we can. We want to show the love of Jesus to the community. We call ourselves the church that love is building, so we want to show the community that we truly love them,”  said Pastor Kirby Lloyd.

The church purchased the five crates of sweet potatoes from Landreth Farms in Vardaman.
