Video: West Point Church Hosts Thanksgiving Feast

[bitsontherun WH7xN30U]WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – The Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church Thanksgiving feast is one of their largest events of the year.  It started as a meal for the youth at the church and it continued to grew.

The Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church has been hosting a Thanksgiving feast for the last 10 years.  They don’t just feed those in need, they serve the entire community.

“The reason why we do this is because we like to give back to the whole community. Some churches just want to give back to the senior citizen but we decided to give back to the whole community and not just the needy,” says church member Darlene Cox.

Reverend Quincy Patterson says serving the community is a part of their outreach as a church.

“It’s important to us because our motto is building the kingdom through preaching, teaching and reaching. So this is our outreach to the community, to try to help those who are less fortunate and to also to provide for those who may not have a Thanksgiving meal. So we just reach out to the community to show the love of God in the community,” says Patterson.

Volunteers and local businesses come together each year to make the feast possible.

“The mayor, businesses, Walmart, Tony Barbeque, our friends, family and neighbors. We add the rest. The church, they help us out. It’s a community meal and everybody helps because we can’t do it by ourselves,” says event co-founder Major Charlie Cox.

WACR 105.3 co-sponsored the event and talk show host Steve Harvey donated 15 turkeys to the feast.

The Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church served over a thousand meals to the West Point community on Wednesday.
