WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — You likely celebrated Memorial Day Monday, but today is actually the traditional Memorial Day.

The Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968 actually moved Memorial Day from its traditional date to create a 3-day weekend.

City leaders showed the names of each Clay County resident who died in active military service since World War I.

They also handed out flags to family members after their loved ones’ name appeared on screen.

“There can’t be enough said, about the sacrifices that our veterans of all services have gone through over the years. I’m honored to be a participant,” veteran Charlie Bolling Jr. said.”

City leaders ended the program playing Taps in honor of those who gave their life for our freedom.
