WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — West Point selectmen Tuesday night named their portion of the West Point Consolidated School District (WPCSD) Board of Trustee members.

The board reappointed current West Point School District (WPSD) Board of Education members Shay King and Nita Keys to serve on the new board.

West Point Mayor Robbie Robinson reached out to current school board member Art Shirley for possible reappointment as well, but Shirley withdrew his name from consideration. To compensate, Robinson suggested the board appoint Elizabeth Bailey, who has some 25 years of teaching under her belt.

Bailey was officially appointed to the board after a 3-0 vote.

Selectmen Keith McBrayer and William Binder both recused themselves from the appointment votes due to, Robinson said, “ethics concerns.”

King, Keys and Bailey were each recommended to the board by Robinson.

The current WPSD board is composed of Board Chairman Gene Brown, Board Vice-Chairman Nita Keys, Board Secretary Art Shirley, Cameron Boyd, Shay King and Board Attorney Tom Storey.

West Point was required to appoint three out of five WPCSD board members, with Clay County responsible for the remaining two seats. Clay County residents elected Tommy Coleman and Gene Brown in November.
