WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — West Point selectmen have decided not to dump a bigger share of health insurance costs on city workers.

A year of big claims from city workers forced Blue Cross Blue Shield to raise the city’s insurance premiums 35 percent. And when selectmen couldn’t find a better deal from other providers, they considered asking city workers to pay 20 percent of premiums rather than the current 15 percent.

But today, selectmen decided to stay with the current formula. They said the combined higher share and premiums would be too much of a financial burden on workers.

Chief Administrative Officer Randy Jones says the city will have to find other ways to save money in the budget.
