TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Mississippi’s junior Senator says he doesn’t believe the public should be overly concerned about the deadly disease Ebola gaining a foothold in this country.
Senator Roger Wicker was guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Military Officers of America Association in Tupelo this evening.

This weekend, officials in Texas announced that a health care worker in Dallas had contracted Ebola, from a patient who was infected during a trip to Liberia. However, Senator Wicker said experts have stressed that as long as precautions are taken, it’s unlikely the disease will impact a lot of people in the United States.

“I do think we have the best disease control program on the face of the earth, in the history of mankind. We’re doing it better now than ever before.I’m fairly confident we will get the job done,I’m not over confident, I think we need to be concerned about it.It’s not a political issue, it’s an issue of government functioning efficiently and doing the protocols that are laid out there according to the rules.”

Senator Wicker said he is more concerned about the ability of terrorists to enter the U. S.  illegally, than he is about the potential for an Ebola epidemic in this country.
