WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The April tornadoes demonstrated the importance of early warnings and being prepared.

In Winston County, city and county leaders have not only been focused on rebuilding the destruction, but also on taking steps to prepare for the next natural disaster.

Winston County’s Emergency Management Director Buddy King said he wants to continue to provide more safety and warning in the event of another tornado outbreak.

“We are looking at places to add additional sirens,” King said. “We are looking at places to add additional community storm shelters. And certainly the actual event has given a new level of education and awareness that we could never stimulate without the storm.”

Although the rebuilding process is just in the beginning stages, county leaders expect to make a full recovery, and become even more prepared for future natural disasters.
